Soon a lock would be added to a door. That made not only a way to keep the door from accidentally opening but also a way to intentionally keep people out. That wasnt enough for some people who could bust through a simple lock so there had to be more substantial locks created. Dead bolts were added to really hold a door shut when the person inside wanted it to stay that way. At one point there were very limited selections if you wanted a door with locks and even more limited selections if you wanted the additional dead bolt lock that matched the door knob.
Also a good resistive structure is needed. Deadbolts are used along with exterior door levers. We have to pull out these deadbolts latches if we want to replace the knob. Interior knobs have a basic structure somewhat simpler than an exterior knobs properties so they are simpler to replace. The main screws need to be removed first using a screwdriver. Then the two knobs on each direction will automatically come out. After that faceplate screws on the edges need to be taken out to remove the latching parts. Then the main plate needs to be taken out removing the anchor screws. These are the basic tasks to remove a door knob. Then the question of installing the new door knob arrives.
The first thing to do is to go out and get the new door knob pick the one you like even if it is different to the ones you already have around the house. The mechanism in all of them works in much the same way and their fit on the door is standard. You will need a flat and a Phillips screw driver ( the Phillips screw driver is the one that has a round star shaped tip) and maybe a small hammer. The process of changing the door knob is simple and easy to do because all you will be doing is exchanging one for the other.
This is a simple guide to changing a damaged door knob at home. Carpenters charge by the hour and you also have to wait in line for them to have time to come and do what you need. Follow these simple instructions and you can get rid of that bothersome door knob that sticks or does not work anymore in a few minutes without breaking a sweat. This guide applies to standard knobs which are found all over your house if you want to change the front door knob well that is a different story which we will deal with on a separate article.
